Essay Author and Title:
"Real Archaeologists Don't Wear Fedoras", Neil Asher Silberman
Central Argument of the Essay:
(p.343) "...I have a problem with the entertainment tail waggin the archaeological dog"
My Central Claim about the nature/effectiveness of the argument in the essay:
Built on opinion. Author attempts to use strength in credibility to support his argument but fails.
This is how the author manipulated the rhetorical appeals:
The logos appeal:Vitually Non-existent
The ethos appeal:Author flaunts knowlege of archaeology as well as the friends he has in the business.
The pathos appeal: The only reader's subject to the author's pathos appeal are those in a similar situation who would be in turn forced to sympathize with his emotional point of view.
My conclusion about the nature/effectiveness of the argument in the essay:
Complete Failure, author should stick to digging through rocks
